We talk about SEO alot on our blog. However we realised that many of our tips and tricks take a lot of time to get right. And we still stand by this. Slow and steady really does win the race when it comes to SEO. But that doesn’t mean that there aren’t a few less time consuming things you can do in the meantime. That’s why we thought we’d put together a list of tasks you can do right now to improve SEO.
Get a quick SEO audit
Before you do anything else you want to head over to Moz. When you sign up (even with the free version) you will get access to a tool called the “link explorer”. Here you’ll be able to see your DA (domain authority), number of inbound links, trust ranking and more. This is a good starting point as you can get a general feel for how well you’re doing when it comes to SEO.
Complete your meta-data
If you’ve done your keyword research completing your meta-data should be a breeze. Make sure you fill out meta titles, descriptions and URLs. However, you don’t just need to ensure that they are filled in. You also need to make sure they read well and are written in a way that users will entice users on to your website. If you have a handy plugin like Yoast this is even easier.
Add alt tags to your images
Again, this is super simple especially if you’ve done your keyword research. Majority of CMSs allow you to do this within them. For example in WordPress all you have to do is navigate to your media library and click on edit underneath the image you want to add an alt tag to. Then type your desired alt tag into the box entitled “alt text” and hit save. You don’t want to add in just any keywords though. They should relate to the image and not just be a keyword you want your website to rank for. So, if you’re a local cafe and have a picture of some coffee beans on your website, don’t just write something like “cafe in Wimbleon” write “Perviuan coffee beans and drinks in Wimbledon”. The more sepcific the better.
Clean up your broken links
Back in the spring we actually wrote an entire post showing you how to clean up broken links. The entire process of cleaning up broken links can be quite time consuming – especially if you’ve never done it before. However you can start building a considerable amount of speed once you get going. We know it can be quite tedious too but don’t give up! It’ll be worth it for your SEO!
Refresh your content
Refreshing old content is a great way to show search engines your website is still in use and is relevant to new searches. You’ll probably find that if some of your content on your website hasn’t been touched in a while your writing style may have changed, the information may be outdated or perhaps you’ve had a read through and just decided you’ve found a better way to explain things. Amend these things. When all of these little content changes are combined together, they can make a big difference for SEO.
We hope you enjoyed this blog post and are now ready to get started on some quick tasks to improve SEO and online reach. If you need any further assistance any website or online marketing projects then please don’t hesitate to contact us right here on our website. Until then, happy marketing!
