Instagram is one of the most popular social media networks out there – it is currently home to one billion monthly active users. So it’s no surprise that businesses have been flocking to it in order to promote their products and services. However because Instagram is one of the most user dense platforms out there – it can make it difficult for accounts to be seen and to grow. So if a lot of accounts are struggling on there how can you give yourself a running start and gain the true benefits of Instagram? And what do you have to do to maintain a successful SME Instagram account?
Have a theme
Instagram is all about how things look – their aesthetic. So make sure that all of your posts look good side by side and have a common colour, filter or composition. To do this you can store and edit all of your files in a certain folder on your phone so that you can look at them all side by side. Of course there are also some apps that can help you do this too like Preview. This way you can plan your feed ahead of time and make sure all of your images look beautifully curated on your feed.
Find your schedule
Like all marketing channels – there is always a perfect time and perfect place and Instagram is no different. In order to find out the best time for you to post check your insights button on your profile. If you don’t have the insights button you have to simply change from a personal to a business account. In your insights you will be able to see when your followers are online, how your previous posts performed and more. Use these metrics to see what days of the week and what times your posts seem to perform the best. Keep posting when you’ve been most successful – and post less when you haven’t.
Reel them in
Instagram is really pushing creators on their platform to post video content using their reels function. Reels are basically just videos that you post to the app and stay on there permanently (unless you delete them) unlike stories that usually only stay live for a day. You can still caption and hashtag your reels just like you would with a regular Instagram post. However, like we said Instagram’s algorithm is really favouring reels at the moment over any other kinds of posts. So in order to capitalise on some growth, try your hand at posting a few reels along with your regular photo posts.
Use relevant hashtags
Hashtags are still a great way to capture new followers and get them to interact with your content. Make sure you research your hashtags to find popular ones for your niche and use these on your posts. You can research Instagram hashtags on a lot of places online, but the best place is definitely the app itself. Just click the search icon on the bottom of the app and scroll through some of the topics that appear for inspiration. Don’t use spam hashtags like #likeforlike or #followforfollow unless you want to damage your chances of getting your content seen.
Like with any digital marketing effort – you have to be consistent if you want to be successful on Instagram. Don’t just post every now and again – try and post at least once or twice a day. It’s also worth noting that you shouldn’t just be consistent with your own posts. You should be consistent with interacting with others content too. Before posting your content, make sure you’ve been interacting with others posts so that the Instagram algorithm can see that you’re a genuine user. Also, the more people you interact with on there, the more likely they are to interact with you.
