LinkedIn is often a social media network that can be overlooked. After all it’s not as trendy as Instagram, as popular as Facebook or as “fun” as TikTok. But don’t let that make you dismiss it completely. LinkedIn can actually be a very fruitful place for various SMEs – you can reach new customers and connect with complimentary business. So how do you craft a successful SME LinkedIn page?

Establish your audience.

As we said, LinkedIn isn’t a social network for all SMEs. In order to have a successful SME LinkedIn page you need to ensure that your audience are there to interact with it. You need to think about whether or not your customers are present on this platform. For example if you’re selling clothes dedicated to teenagers, this isn’t the platform for you. In order for LinkedIn to work, your target audience has to be working professionals. After all, this is who the platform was made for.  Furthermore, like most social media platforms, LinkedIn is not a place to make a hard sale. It’s a place where you can position your SME as a thought leader in your industry, grow connections and collaborate with other businesses. Therefore you need to think about whether this type of content is useful for you SME and your potential customers.

Add value.

LinkedIn isn’t just somewhere that desperate recruiters lurk sending proposals to completely irrelevant candidates. It’s also a place where SMEs can add real value to the online community by posting links to blog posts, posting relevant infographics, opening up industry discussions and even posting articles directly.  Whilst LinkedIn is heavily populated with more serious content, you can add some more light hearted posts if they still relate to a professional message. By adding some lighter content to a users usually serious feed, your content is likely to be noticed. Furthermore, by making someone smile or think about a professional story differently – you’re also adding value to their feed. This doesn’t mean that your content can’t be serious sometimes though. Providing a sprinkling of serious messages amongst your light hearted content is always a good idea and shows that you mean business.

Interact with your community.

Interacting with the community on LinkedIn is one of the best ways you can create a successful SME LinkedIn page. LinkedIn is full of different communities that use different groups that hold scheduled chats and talks about a particular topic with their followers. Make sure you research some of the most popular ones and join them so that you can take part in the discussions from time to time. You even create your own group! Not only will you be able to find more relevant accounts to interact with, users will also be able to see your contributions to the chats and follow your page if they like what they see. This is a great way for you to reach new people and get inspiration for even more content.

Be consistent.

Like with any digital marketing effort – you have to be consistent if you want to be successful on LinkedIn. Don’t just post every now and again – try and post at least once a day. It’s also worth noting that you shouldn’t just be consistent with your own posts. You should be consistent with interacting with other content too. Before posting your content, make sure you’ve been interacting with others content in groups and on your feed so that the LinkedIn algorithm can see that you’re an active user. Also, the more people you interact with on there, the more likely they are to interact with you.
