By 11 March 2016No Comments

Get your Friday feeling on because it’s time for another weekly web news round-up. This week we’re talking about emotional web design, artificial intelligence, free conferences, typography and we even have a whole list of freebies you can get your hands on. What’s not to love?

1. Emotional landing pages.

web news landing pages

We all know the importance of a landing page and how it should entice a user and invite them to stay on your website for a longer period of time. But we never talk about how it should make users feel emotionally. According to Designmodo, it is important to be able to identify emotions from web pages and to conscientiously think about emotions whilst designing. This is because by evoking some sort of emotion from users your web page leaves a larger impression. Thus, being more rememberable, thus being a more successful landing page design. See where we’re going with this? Emotions make better web designs.

2. Freebie Friday!

The web designer depot have listed 50+ completely free web design resources for everyone to try out. The list includes some handy vectors, icons, UI (user interface) kits, templates, mockups and other handy, fun tools. Our favourites have to be the five free font and typeface sets. What are your favourites? Tweet us and let us know. By the way your welcome (we’ll take our owed favours in tea and cake).

3. They’re coming for us…

You know we said that web developers and web designer would benefit from more artificial intelligence software and not have to worry about robots taking our jobs? Well… apparently we were wrong (oops! Please don’t shoot the messenger!). Thanks to artificial intelligence computers and robots will learn about creativity and eventually be able to prove themselves to be “far more creative than most humans”, web designers included. But what does that mean for web developers? According to the article robots are coming for your jobs web developers would be out of a job before designers! Someone needs to call Arnie because we want our jobs back…

4. Free design online conference.

So you can’t make it to that awesome web development conference in Berlin or that really cool design exhibition in San Fransisco. Don’t sweat it because you can attend the design online conference for free via Twitch. Listen to as many speakers as you like as they touch on topics such as UX (user experience) design, the best web development practices, working with Abobe CC, collaboration projects and many more. There are even opportunities for you to ask questions and get feedback from the industry experts themselves. Who said you need to travel half-way across the world to experience conferences?

5. Mobile typography.

It is no secret that we love typography, we’ve spoken about how typography can affect your web design and even made a typography infographic. But what about when it comes to responsive designs or content that is only going to be viewed on a mobile, like an app for instance? Well, it turns out there is a whole range of typefaces and fonts that are specifically designed for mobile viewing. Every single set is optimised for a smaller screen and even comes with some handy tips for you to apply when using that specific font. Easy-peasy!

And that’s it for this week’s web news round-up. We hope you enjoyed it and we’ll see you next week for more industry web news stories!
